A BIG congratulations to Pentaho customer Ivy Tech Community College, recipient of the Best Self-Service Analytics Award by Gartner, Inc. through their 2016 Gartner Data & Analytics Excellence Awards. The awards recognize excellence in data and analytics technology to drive best-in-class initiatives.
Ivy Tech Community College is Indiana’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system with about 175,000 students registering each year. With 32 campuses, 80 satellite locations, 1,200 applications and ingesting about a hundred million rows of data per day, Ivy Tech was faced with an enormous data problem. Users didn’t have access to all the data required to do their job and some users were even logging into 20 applications per day to get a piecemeal view of their data. Data challenges like this are not uncommon for analytics problems. In fact, in our experience, it’s the single largest problem in EVERY analytics project.
From the beginning, their vision was to create a data democracy – a self-service data analytics environment where users can get their jobs done effectively by looking through ONE piece of glass at the intuitive, relevant and interactive data to get what they need when they need it – without engaging IT or a special analytics team.
They needed to solve this problem so they could move past questions of data accuracy to do things like identify student behaviors that predict failure early – so they can intervene make at risk students successful.
Pentaho is proud to be an integral part of Ivy Tech’s solution to this data problem. Like many of our other customers, Ivy Tech is using Pentaho’s Data Integration (PDI) software to orchestrate the data movement from thousands of sources into Amazon S3, and then into their Amazon Redshift data warehouse. Ivy Tech also delivers embedded analytics to over 3,000 employees (eventually 9,000) through Pentaho’s Business Analytics visualization software embedded in an intuitive, web based and mobile friendly UI – inside their virtual private cloud.
On Wednesday, March 8th, I will present Ivy Tech’s journey at the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in Grapevine, Texas. My colleague Jared Cornelius will also provide a demonstration of how others can utilize Pentaho to transform their organizations and deliver award winning self-service analytics. Ivy Tech’s Chief Data Officer, Brendan Aldrich and Chief Technical Officer, Lige Hensley, will also be in the audience to answer questions. We hope to see you at our presentation titled, “This just in: It’s not about analytics,” our at our booth #328.
Congratulations again to Ivy Tech on this impressive award.
